1. The capillary of DME should be clean and vertically mounted otherwise drop time, size and shape of mercury drop will not be reproducible.

2. The tip of the capillary should be square so that the experimental solution should not be able to enter the capillary.

3. The height of Hg reservoir should be such that the Hg which falls from capillary must be in the form of drops.

4. Capillary must be immersed in 1: 1 HNO3 before use.
