Colour of a sol depends on the wavelength of the light scattered by the dispersed phase which, in turn depends upon the size and nature of the particles. In the case of silver sol, the following data is available.

#Colour of silver solParticle size (mm)
1Orange-yellow\(6\times { 10 }^{ -5 }\)
2Orange-red\(9\times { 10 }^{ -5 }\)
3Purple\(13\times { 10 }^{ -5 }\)
4Violet\(15\times { 10 }^{ -5 }\)
